R&B Singer Lloyd ::: New Album, Being Single & His Personal Message to Schwarzenegger
R&B singer Lloyd stopped by DC’s Park at Fourteenth to perform and push his upcoming album. After hitting the stage, I rapped with Lloyd about the face of “R&B”, his relationship status, Oprah and more. Peep our conversation.
About what fans can expect from Lloyd’s upcoming album, ‘King of Hearts’: “It’s more so about the reflection of what you see on the inside and what you see on the surface. A lot of times it’s easy to show your life of what people can see, which is what’s shown on the outside. A lot of times what’s on the inside is easy to hide, but with ‘King of Hearts’ it’s a lot of reflection into my life, into my love life, into the way I feel about certain topics, like love and heart-break. I strip myself down to the core and I just bare my soul. That’s what R&B is about – something that’s real, that people can feel. It’s not what everyone is doing now, which is techno, which is okay. I stay true to my roots.”
About how the face of R&B has changed: “It’s good. There’s all kinds of races and ethnic backgrounds at my concerts and I respect the fact that black music has affected pop-culture. But I do think it’s always important to bring it back.”
On his relationship status and what he looks for in a woman: “Yes, I’m single. I like confidence; confidence is the coolest thing a woman can wear. It’s the sexiest fragrance out there. I think a woman that obviously has tattoos [is sexy] – it’s usually about expressing yourself and individualism/individuality and I can respect that. Anything that’s natural, I love it. I’m big on people being confident and comfortable in their own skin.”
On the Arnold Schwarzenegger scandal: “You know I think that Arnold may be my father too (laughs). Because I didn’t grow up with my father – and my mom used to tell me I was adopted when I was younger, when I would act up. So, Arnold if you’re listening, man… lol. Maybe we should call him Schwarze-Negro.”
On Oprah leaving day-time television: “She is a great example of making something out of nothing and what the American Dream is all about and she really, truly defines hard work, dedication and sacrifice… and fearlessness. And that’s the type of morals that I try to apply every day.”
Lloyd’s upcoming album hits stores July 2011. Check his latest single, ‘Be the One’ featuring Trey Songz and Young Jeezy here. Special thanks to Beny Blaq Entertainment.
