If Rihanna’s ‘S&M’ Was Like Fake Porn & Gave You A Hard D*ck, You Should Thank Her
Rihanna does an interview for Glamour. Here’s what she had to say about going from Good Girl to Bad; following Chris Brown on twitter; her crazy “S&M” lyrics and video; promoting teenage sex; Katy Perry; and more!
Our favorite red head, Rihanna, is definitely on a roll with all the magazine covers she’s been doing lately. For Glamour’s September issue she graces the cover with her red locs done in curls and a pair of sequined, skin-tight leggings that I would love to wear! And of course she did an interview as well. Peep what she had to say below.
On how she changed from “Good Girl” to “Bad Girl” over the years:
“In the beginning of my career it was really strict for me. I couldn’t wear pink or red lipstick; it was just bizarre. We had a young fan base and they were just trying to keep me fresh. But I just really wanted to be myself. I wanted to be sassy; the attitude, all these things that I am. It was important for me to grow. ‘Good Girl Gone Bad’ was the first time I really took the reins in my career creatively. Then ‘Rated R’ came right after that, and that’s when I realized, ‘OK, my fans love the music.’ Now I need to get a little deep with them, get a little more vulnerable, open up.”
On following Chris Brown on twitter:
“That’s something that people would love to make into something more than it actually is, and I think that’s just something I’m gonna have to live with for the rest of my life unfortunately.”
On the “S&M” lyrics and video:
“When I was singing it [at first], it was [just] a fun song, and I directed it at my love-hate relationship with the media, but it went so much further than that, and I didn’t even realize it. Then I just started putting pieces of the puzzle together, seeing how it related to my childhood and how it can affect me in my adult life. [The hateful words coming across the screen in the video] was me making fun of absurd things I’ve heard and read about myself. [If anyone feels like it was faux porn], thanks. I mean
shit, I’ll take that as a compliment. It was just a smooch on the cheek, but if you got a boner, then you’re welcome! [On the metaphorical side of the song] I’m just making fun of blogs and rumors. It used to really bother me. [On the literal side of the song] I absolutely do prefer a dominant guy. I play a dominant role in my life, in every other aspect of it. And I like to feel like a lady still, at some point. I feel like that’s the time when a guy really gets to be a man, and I get to be a woman. And if I’m being a man in the bedroom too, there’s nothing really in it for me.”
On the inspiration from a challenge:
“I just love a challenge, whether it’s a relationship, my career, clothing… Like getting dressed, I want to pick the most bizarre pair of shorts so I can figure out how to make it look right, or work an outfit that will make people go “What the hell is she wearing?” You know, whatever it is, a challenge is just thrilling for me.”
Her Favorite song:
“‘Fire Bomb’ is one of my favorite songs. It kills me that it was never a single. It’s not the most positive message; it’s just honest. It’s about wanting revenge, because you just feel like no one can understand what you’re feeling unless you burn them the way they burned you. And that was at a time when I didn’t really want to be angry but I couldn’t help it, and ‘Fire Bomb’ was like that therapeutic song for me.”
On being honest:
“I think honesty is the ultimate liberation in life. People want to shy away from the truth and keep sweeping it under the rug. But after a while, you pick up the rug and there’s just way too much dirt, so you might as well just be up front about it. If you just face it today, then tomorrow you can move on to something else. It just reminds me of ‘8 Mile’ when Eminem rapped every diss they could say about him. It gives you that freedom, because what are they going to say about you now?”
On promoting teenage sex:
“I wouldn’t want to promote teenage girls having sex. But the reality is it’s happening, and they’re just a little too young to understand how careful they need to be. That’s the big battle with me. I want to see the right example and at the same time live my life. I feel like pop stars can’t be rock stars anymore because they have to be role models, and it takes the fun out of it for us, because we just want to have fun with art.”
On her relationship with Katy Perry:
“Katy is like the
shit. Honestly, I really love that girl. And when I met her it was at a time when I wasn’t really talking to any females besides the women I work with and my best friend. I’ve always been like that, my whole teenage life, till now. All my friends [were] guys to be completely honest. But when I met her it was such a breath of fresh air. I just couldn’t believe this chick had no edit button. She was everything I wanted to be at the time, because I was still at a point in my career where I had to edit myself and not be open.”
The interview also revealed that she will be so “badass” in the upcoming movie “Battleship” and that she even did her own stunts! Check out some more of her photoshoot shots here.
