Nas Confesses Amy Winehouse’s Song Was About Him

Yesterday marked the 5th year anniversary of the late Amy Winehouse’s award winning album Back to Black. The album had some of the most memorable singles from the English recording artist, like the grammy award winning single, “Rehab,” “Love is a Losing Game” and “Valerie“. Also, track 3 on the album, “Me & Mr. Jones,” has been revealed to actually be about her and hip hop phenomenon Nas, as some lines in the song directly tie to his life. Nas born Nasir Jones is already a direct giveaway, but also in the first line of the final verse she says
“Mr. Destiny 9 and 14.”
Nas has a 17-year-old daughter named Destiny, and Amy and the rapper share a September 14th birthday. Rumor has it that Amy had a crush on the rapper, and Nas revealed his thoughts on the song being about him to XXL saying,
“I don’t really remember if Salaam (the producer), who was really close to Amy, who introduced us, if he told me about it or not. I don’t remember right now. But, I heard a lot about it before I even heard the song.”
Well they must have been pretty close, because the two were planning a joint birthday bash before Amy’s surprise death in June. But Nas still had it up for the both of them this year, as he had a celebrity packed birthday with Jay-Z, Common, Tyson Beckford, Carmelo Anthony, Ne-Yo and many others in attendance at Catch in New York. If Amy was still here that would have been a pretty wild birthday right? Rest in peace.
