Madonna Gets Honest About M.I.A.’s Middle Finger, “I wasn’t happy about it!”

Madonna recently called into Ryan Seacrest’s “On Air With Ryan Seacrest” to talk about her Super Bowl performance. In addition to sharing how she selected who she shared the stage with, she also gave her thoughts on M.I.A.’s middle finger. Peep a few excerpts.
On choosing the performers:
Well, I wanted to choose fun people. Nicki and M.I.A. are cool because they have youthful energy and I think they’re bad asses in their own right. LMFAO, they’re pure joy. They crack me up. They have and incredible sense of humor and I was so happy when they agreed to do the show with me. Strangely enough, their song and my song, ‘Music’ are in the same key so it was really easy to do that mash-up. They were super easy to work with and I love Cee-Lo. I’ve always loved his voice. I feel like he’s someone that’s up and coming and interesting. So, I feel like it’s a dream come true for me. I got to work with a lot of people I wanted to work with.”

On M.I.A.’s “middle finger”:
“To tell you the truth I didn’t even know about it. I didn’t know about it until I left. I had no Idea what goes on in front of me or with camera’s capturing things. So when I left I found out about it in the elevator actually on the way to to go to the car to go to the airport. I was really surprised, I didn’t know anything about it! I wasn’t happy about it because to me…. I understand it’s kind of punk rock and everything… but to me there was such a good feeling of love and good energy and positivity and it just seemed negative. It’s one of those things where it’s kind of teenager in a way kind of irrelevant thing to do in one respect but there was such a feeling of love and unity there like what was the point? It was just out of place.”
On if Madonna has a boyfriend:
“I”m just looking around, you know, uncovering my options.”
