[Recap] Lauryn Hill Disappoints South African Fans at the Cape Town International Jazz Festival

When singer Jill Scott pulled out of the annual Cape Town International Jazz Festival due to other commitments it was all gloom and doom for all her fans. Pretty soon however South African spirits would be up again as Lauryn Hill, affectionately known as ‘L Boogie’ replaced Scott as the headline act for the Jazz. Such a talented musician performing once again (she’d previous performed in the country in 2006) on our very shores for such a prestigious event, we couldn’t wait for her arrival.

Needless to say, Lauryn Hill put on one of the worst performances ever and had half the crowd walk out on her while still on stage.  She was 30 minutes late and the sound was poor and throughout;

“Can y’all hear me? Can ya’ll hear my voice? I want y’all to hear me. “

Organizers of the festival refused to take any of the blame and instead cite Hill’s management for her whack performance saying they’d refused to use the local sound technicians available to them, opting to do everything themselves.

Some tweets during her performance.

@Claymorar: “Lauryn Hill is in Cape Town now performing! Half the venue walked out on her pathetic performance!”

@Tebogovw: “What an embarrassment lauryn hill high with a bad voice ppl walking out of the performance #capetownjazzfest”.

@Amunish: “Lauren Hill must futsek and go make more weed addicted children…”

Yikes.
