[New Music] Nicki Minaj Says She’s A Republican, Voting For Mitt Romney On ‘Mercy’
One of Nicki Minaj’s lines on Lil Wayne’s latest mixtape, has sparked a bit of controversy. Rapping over Kanye West’s ‘Mercy’, Nicki suggests that she’s a Republican and is casting her vote for Mitt Romney. She rhymes:
“I’m a Republican voting for Mitt Romney, you lazy b——s are f—— up the economy,”

I went on a full fledge twitter rant about this yesterday. Sad part is, she probably isn’t even following politics and doesn’t know who stands for what. Someone above said Nicki doesn’t write her rhymes. That is not true. And I hate that ppl think a woman can’t be that clever to write her own lyrics. She’s talented, end of story… But as far as being a republican, I think it was just a catchy line that she knew would get attention. I read that she hasn’t even registered to vote in the last three states she’s lived in so whatever. She’s a rapper. Who cares what her political views are. She has every right to make her own choice, just like you and I.

Some of what you stated is true, but the truth of the matter is millions of people do care. She isn’t registered to vote but many others are.This song has received so much attention, that it is feared that people will be mislead into thinking that she may know something about Politics. It is sad that many gullible and impressionable potential voters will be influenced by her. As an entertainer there is a social responsibility to the public that will hear your music. The Republican Party has used this to draw attention to the division amongst people that should be doing everything to stay united. I’m sure it was to garner attention, but people that thrive on any type of attention will do anything for it, even at the sake of others.

This heavily debated topic is something people should avoid in their music whether they are being serious or not. Her lyrics are for entertainment purposes. If you listened to it and felt some kind of way I would tell YOU: “it is not even that deep. Relax.”
