FLOTUS Attends Funeral of Slain Chicago Girl + Hosting 9-Year-Old Quvenzhané Wallis At White House
Over the weekend, family, friends, loved ones and dignitaries laid to rest, 15-year-old Chicago native, Hadiya Pendleton. As some of ou know, she was shot and killed Jan. 29, as she stood with friends at a neighborhood park (near President Obama’s Chicago home).
Just days before, the band majorette was among the performers during events for Obama’s inauguration. First lady Michelle Obama was in attendance. Police say Pendleton was an innocent victim in a gang-related shooting.
And in lighter news, this week, FLOTUS’ office announced that they will host 9-year-old Quvenzhané Wallis, who is nominated for an Oscar, for her role in Beasts of the Southern Wild. Quvenzhané will be at the White House to participate in an interactive student workshop to mark Black History month. [Newser, USA Today]
