Medical Examiner Confirms Rapper Chris Kelly, of Kris Kross, Died of A Drug Overdose
On Monday, it was announced that Chris Kelly of the ’90s rap duo Kriss Kross died of a drug overdose. According to the Associated Pres, a toxicology screening revealed that the 34-year-old rapper had a mixture of drugs in his system when he was pronounced dead on May 1. Paramedics found him unresponsive on a living room couch at his Atlanta home and tried to resuscitate him. He was later pronounced dead at a local hospital.
At this time, it is not know which specific drugs Chris had used before his death. However, a police report from the night of his death said his mother told investigators her son used cocaine and heroin the night before he died and had a history of drug abuse. Earlier this year, Kriss Kross performed in Atlanta to celebrate the anniversary of Jermaine Dupri’s ‘So So Def’ anniversary and was planning to make a comeback. No further comment from Chris’ family has been shared.
