[VIDEO] Tamar Braxton Defends Julianne Hough’s Halloween Black Face: ‘It’s Not That Serious!’
She said:
She doesn’t look African-American to me. She looks like me with a tan…when I get a spray tan…I mean I’m African American but I’m just sayin’…I mean like, if you had like four tans on top of each other…You know what I’m saying? That’s what she looks like.
She added that folk perhaps need to lighten up:
I think people are like #teamtoo much right now cuz it’s Halloween and you should go dress as you want to right? That’s the past, to do whatever you like…If I was to dress in all white like a cone-head, what you be mad at me? No, it’s a Halloween Party! It’s not tryna be racist or offensive or anything like that…First of all, you’re drunk by the time you figure out who you are. It’s not that serious….I wouldn’t think nothing of it…I don’t think she has black face, that’s totally…different. They’re darker tanned than that on Dancing With the Stars. I mean seriously.
Check out the clip below.
Meanwhile, Julianne has since apologized for the incident, sharing:
I am a huge fan of the show ‘Orange is the New Black,’ actress Uzo Aduba, and the character she has created. It certainly was never my intention to be disrespectful or demeaning to anyone in any way. I realize my costume hurt and offended people and I truly apologize.
Is Tamar right, in suggesting that those offended may be on #TeamTooMuch? Or is this totally still unacceptable in your eyes?
