Toya Wright Feels Disrespected When She’s Refer To As Lil Wayne’s ‘Baby Mama’: I’m somebody’s wife!
Toya Wright has had a rough couple days. Earlier this week, entrepreneur and former reality star was jailed in College Park, GA due to an unpaid parking ticket. Admittedly “scarred” by the experience, the 30-year-old vowed to advocate for the better treatment of prisoners. Way back when we first met the New Orleans native she was introduced to us as rapper Lil Wayne’s ex-wife. Since then, Toya has remarried (to Mickey “Memphitz” Wright) and launched several successful businesses. Bouncing back from the arrest, she dropped by Atlanta’s Streetz 94.5 radio station chatting about her brief jail stint, how she feels about the ‘Lil Wayne Baby Mama Label’ and being a positive role model for her daughter, Reginae.
Peep the excerpts below.
On if she’s bothered when she’s referred to Lil Wayne’s baby mama:
It does but I mean I totally get it, that’s the way I was introduced to the media but it’s just also a form of disrespect. I’m married and for one I was married to him. If you say anything about Lil Wayne don’t say babymama cause he got like what 4 of those, say ex- wife….Don’t address me as his babymama because I wasn’t that, I’m someone else’s wife….But that’s how you pump the story up, I guess it looks better cause Lil Wayne went to jail and I guess for the media, I guess that’s what makes more sense. But sometimes, yes, that annoys the hell out of me.
I just try to be the young parent that continue to do positive things and set a positive example for my little girl who’s watching me everyday. So she sees how I just be hustling, you know doing my thing or whatever. I be trying to keep it busy, you know, just grind. And it kills me all the time, she comes to my like, ” Mommy, I wanna write a book.” Then go ahead and write one, if that’s what you’re trying to do, I’ll help you with that. So she wrote a book ; Paparazzi Princesses’ with her God sister….And then she came to me like, ” I wanna do this line” she was like, ” I wanna call it ” Shut Up’. I was like that’s kinda…She was like I’m telling you the teens are gonna love it. And she right cause they selling like crazy. So she was right on time with that ’cause at first I was like, ‘I don’t know about that, that’s kinda rude’. She was like, ‘they have a lot of stuff that’s rude, they have songs that’s rude’. She made a point. And to be honest with you, I tried to do a t-shirt line, you know something positive and it didn’t sell. Now she trying to do the ‘Shut Up’ hoodies and it’s going crazy. She got a couple of projects that we working on coming up in 2014, so I’m very proud of her.
