[VIDEO] Lala Anthony Recalls Being In An Abusive Relationship: He threw plates of food at me!
You’d be surprised at the intricate layers of what people go through behind closed doors, especially in the love department. Case in point, TV personality/actress Lala Anthony. The 34-year-old basketball wife (she’s been with her husband, Carmelo Anthony for ten years) recently shared a heart-wrenching story about being in an abusive relationship with a boyfriend that she couldn’t seem to get away from.
She shared on Sway in the Morning:
Yes, dysfunctional abusive; verbally abusive. Not physically but I mean, it’s abuse in anyway. And very controlling. You know and it was my first love and I felt like he was controlling me because he loved me and that’s how he’s showing me that he loved me. And it was later on that I realized that was completely wrong and that’s a message I want to get out to young women out there. That’s not love. And see The Playbook is a great book…The chore of the book is about self esteem and loving yourself…And that’s the message I want to get out…and not feel like you need a man to feel whole.
She recounts this story in great detail in her book, The Love Playbook.
The former veejay suggests that she’s the perfect person to dish this advice because she’s actually lived it.
I went through it and I like to speak from a place of experience…I’ve been through ALOT that people don’t know about.
When asked by Sway Calloway, about one of the lowest moments in the abusive relationship, she recalled:
Throwing plates of food at me. Breaking glasses. Always being really angry and upset. I was like, ‘This can’t be love’. I would tell myself that and continue to stay. And I remember calling my dad like, ‘Dad, I need you to come and get me’.

Lala’s new book is now on bookshelves.
