[VIDEO] Brandy Explains Why She Lied to Oprah, How Kim Kardashian Came Into Ray J’s Life
Brandy: [Laughs] She was, but we were very close. We were very close and she loved fashion and she thought I looked a mess. [Laughs] And she wanted to help me out in that area so she did start styling me for a period of time. Oprah: So Kim became famous because she was with your brother and the tape, right? That’s what started all that. Brandy: Yeah.
On Her Relationship With Ray J:
Oprah: Are you and your brother still close? Brandy: We are very close. We’ve had our moments, but we’re very close.
How Her and Ray J Dealt With Whitney Houston’s Passing
Oprah: One of the last times I saw the two of you together was Whitney’s [Houston] funeral. You all were sitting sort of cattycorner across the aisle from me. That was a tough day. Brandy: It was a tough day. Oprah: That was a hard day. How did you all get through it? Brandy: Together. Whitney and I were close and she was my idol. I couldn’t accept that fact that she was no longer…here. Oprah: There were all these rumors that she and your brother were together and they were really a couple. Did you help him get through it? Brandy: I did. My brother was very distraught, very disconnected. That was a very hard time in his life. Whitney and my brother were very close. I feel like she’s still here. And I feel like she’s one of my angels.
On The 2006 Fatal Accident She Was Involved In
Oprah: Was 2006 the worst time for you when you were involved in the accident and the woman was killed? Was that the worst?
Brandy: Yes. You never wake up thinking that…
Oprah: Today’s the day.
Brandy: That today’s the day that something like this would happen. Being involved in something that tragic, [pauses] I just couldn’t believe it. I don’t like to think about it because I don’t think that’s something I could ever get over or ever truly understand. But that was one of the worst times in my life.
Oprah: How did you manage to go on? Did you speak to her family?
Brandy: Yes, I did speak to her family. But, for me that’s when I realized God is real. I had no one else to turn to or to depend on. I did a lot of speaking to God and a lot of praying, a lot of journaling.
On Her Next Album
Brandy: I’m so excited about the next album. I just don’t care about hits or fitting in. I just want to be whatever I’m supposed to be and let the fear guide me throughout my music and not think about all things that don’t really matter. I want to be as truthful as I can in my music and I think that’s been my problem. The moment I tried to fit in is where I lost my way.
