45-Year-Old Man Sues Kappa Alpha Psi & Police Officer $2 Million For Hazing
Harry claims that a police officer named Jesse Stewart Jr, who was also the intake chairman for the chapter, hazed him. Harry states in his lawsuit that while being hazed, he was told to strip down to his underwear and was then beaten and smacked with a cane.
In the suit, he also states that at one point, pledgees were asked to take off their pants and socks and to “perform tasks around [the defendant’s] house in their underwear.” He also says they were questioned about their sex lives and told to rub lotion on Jesse.
Jesse was said to be off-duty when the alleged hazing incident took place.
Police Chief Mark A. Magaw said in a statement:
When one of our officers is accused of wrongdoing, we take those allegations seriously. The Prince George’s County Police Department holds our officers to high standards whether they are on or off duty.
The lawsuit also states:
Since the beating on March 23, 2015, Plaintiff has had to sit on a pillow while driving and is suffering from lower back pain, has not [been] able to sleep, has felt depressed.
According to NBC Washington, Jesse has been suspended and is being charged with misdemeanor reckless endangerment. Jesse became a member in 1991 and did not pledge as an undergraduate. The alleged hazing incident took palce in Jesse’s garage. In addition to suing the fraternity, Harry is also suing Jesse.
