‘Met Gala’ Red Carpet Moments: Solange Knowles, Kim Kardashian, Taraji P Henson, Gabrielle Union, Kerry Washington & More! [Photos]

The fashion was front and center, as celebrities stepped out for The Met Gala. Formally called the Costume Institute Gala and also known as the Met Ball, the purpose of the evening is for its an annual fundraising gala for the benefit of the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute in New York City. It marks the grand opening of the Costume Institute’s annual fashion exhibit.

Each year’s event celebrates the theme of that year’s Costume Institute exhibition, and the exhibition sets the tone for the formal dress of the night since guest are expected to choose their fashion to match the theme of the exhibit. This year’s theme was China: Through the Looking Glass .

Some of the more memorable red carpet moments included Rihanna’s vibrant yellow gown by Chinese couture designer Guo Pei; Jennifer Lopez’s cut-out see-through Versace gown; Solange Knowles over-the-top knee-length dress by Giles and Sarah Jessica Parker’s fancy red and black head piece.

The night proved to be the perfect night to show off your better half. Some of our fav were hugged up on the red carpet including Diddy and Cassie; Gabrielle Union and Dwyane Wade; Lisa Bonet and Lenny Kravitz (they’re exes but seem to get along uberly well); and Kanye West and Kim Kardashina.
