Canadian-Born NBA Star Tristan Thompson Explains Why He Supports Donald Trump’s Immigration Policies: I Love What He’s Done For Our Country
#TristanThompson is standing by President Trump.
The Canadian-born NBA free agent shared his thoughts on Trump and his controversial immigration policies during an upcoming episode of The Katie Miller Podcast. “What President Trump is doing, first of all, I love what he’s done so far for our country…I think he’s helped our country a lot,” Tristan candidly said. Reflecting on his own experience immigrating to a new country, he added, “I have family members and I have people that are immigrants. I believe for those that do the thing the right way and get the papers, I think they should be taken care of first and foremost. I think that’s the right thing. I think that’s the right way of going about it.”
While Tristan noted that he “understands where [Trump’s] coming from,” he also said his heart goes out to those he described as being “in-between states” of getting their legal papers, adding, “it should be case by case on the right people.” Tristan became a U.S. citizen in 2020 during the first #Trump administration ahead of joining the Boston Celtics.
He said the process was surprisingly easy, though he doesn’t believe his #NBA status played a role, explaining, “I think it was just because of the pandemic, so they were just quick with it.” His full interview drops today at 6 p.m. ET wherever you stream podcasts.
