Salim & Mara Brock Akil Leave BET, Ink New Deal With Warner Brothers TV
“The Game” for spousal producers Salim and Mara Brock Akil is pretty much over….pun intended! According to Variety, the pair have recently signed their names to an overall, multiple-year deal with Warner Brothers Television (WBTV) under their Akil Productions company that will start up in May 2016 when their BET agreement comes to an end. These two are credited with virtually changing the reputation of Viacom-owned BET with the creation of “Being Mary Jane” and the now-defunct scripted football-centered comedy series “The Game.”
Back in 2009, the producers joined the BET family after they snagged “The Game” from the CW Network, where it lasted from its humble beginning in 2006 to its fan-upsetting end in 2010. At the time, CA chose to switch up its programming and lucky for the show’s creator, Brock Akil, BET took it upon themselves to listen to the cries of the show’s fans on social media to “bring back ‘The Game.’
