ABC Renews ‘Black-ish’, ‘How to Get Away With Murder’ & ‘Scandal’!
Thanks to competitive ratings, some of your favorite shows that star people of color are returning for another season. ABC has renewed Black-ish, How to Get Away With Murder, Scandal for the 2016-17 broadcast season.
Black-ish is a sitcom starring Anthony Anderson and Tracee Ellis Ross that debuted on ABC. It centers on an upper-middle-class African-American family.
The series premiered in 2014 and was created by Kenya Barris.
How to Get Away with Murder is an American drama television series created by Peter Nowalk, produced by Shonda Rhimes and distributed by ABC Studios. The series airs on ABC as part of a night of programming all under Rhimes’s Shondaland production company.
Viola Davis stars as a law professor at a prestigious Philadelphia university who, with five of her students, becomes entwined in a murder plot. The show features an ensemble cast with Davis as Annalise Keating, Alfred Enoch, Jack Falahee, Aja Naomi King, Matt McGorry and Karla Souza as her students, Charlie Weber and Liza Weil as her assistants, Katie Findlay as her former client, and Billy Brown as a police detective and Annalise’s lover.
Scandal is an American political thriller television series starring Kerry Washington. Created by Shonda Rhimes, it debuted in 2012. Kerry Washington’s character, Olivia Pope, is partially based on former George H.W. Bush administration press aide Judy Smith, who serves as a co-executive producer.
In addition to Kerry Washington, the show features Guillermo Diaz and Katie Lowes as assistants at O.P.A., Tony Goldwyn as the President, Bellamy Young as the ex-First Lady and senator, Jeff Perry as the White House Chief of Staff, Darby Stanchfield as the Press Secretary, Joshua Malina as the Attorney General, Scott Foley as the Director of the NSA, Portia de Rossi as the Vice President’s Chief of Staff, Cornelius Smith Jr. as a civil rights activist and associate at O.P.A. and Joe Morton as Olivia’s father and the head of a spy agency.
