Michael Strahan Reveals How He Handles Fear & Failure
NFL Hall-of-Famer Michael Strahan dishes on building his confidence and how he uses self-motivation to succeed in multiple arenas as SUCCESS Magazine’s May cover story. Widely known as one of the best defensive ends in the league, Strahan retired from the field in 2008, but that didn’t keep him from continuing his success through a new career path in entertainment. In “You Can’t Stop Him: Self-Motivation Fuels Michael Strahan,” he sits down with writer Jeff Vrabel to talk about his busy life after football: a new clothing line through JC Penney, a memoir and overcoming fears as an unprecedented host on Live with Kelly and Michael, as well as Good Morning America, FOX NFL Sunday and The $100,000 Pyramid. She shares,
In football, you’ve got people who say you can’t do this, you can’t do that. In a lot of ways, it’s the same thing that drives me now. At a different time in my life, I might have said no (to the Live job), wouldn’t have even tried it because I was afraid to fail. I’m still afraid to fail, but now I’m not afraid to give it a go and see if it works, and everything I’ve tried has worked pretty well.
On having an insanely busy career, he adds
I like to accomplish things. I look at football and what I had to go through to make it there. And I think to myself, How could I complain about my schedule now? I feel very fortunate to have these opportunities. They make me want to prove that I’m capable.
