Oprah Reacts to Criticism From Black Church Over ‘Greenleaf’ [Audio]
Numbers don’t lie. Just ask Oprah Winfrey, whose new drama series GREENLEAF, is doing some impressive numbers on OWN. But despite the love, there is some criticism. During a recent interview on the Rickey Smiley Morning Show, Oprah admits,
I’ve heard some criticism from the black church about why do you have to have people sinning and doing bad things. Well, I think the church is for people who are sinning. We all are sinning on some level and I am never going to be disrespectful of the church.
When asked if she feels she ended her hit daytime talk show, The Oprah Winfrey Show, too early, she explains,
I wanted to end the show on a high note. I didn’t want to be one of those people where y’all were saying ‘She should’ve ended that show years ago.’… So I have no regrets, not one.
She says that creating the OWN network was a huge challenge at the beginning.
Building a network from scratch, was so much harder than I thought. It threw me for a moment to be in a position of not having full control and not really knowing who the audience was and trying to figure it out.
And she adds,
When I say God is good all the time, I really do know that ultimately despite what the world says, that I am guided by the force [of] God that’s bigger than that.
