(EXCLUSIVE) Derrick Rose – Judge Helps NBA Baller In Rape Case, Prevents Jury From Details About Wealth
theJasmineBRAND.com exclusively reports, Derrick Rose scored a victory in the lawsuit accusing him of gang raping a woman, with a judge ordering that no evidence of the NBA star’s wealth will be presented to the jury during the upcoming trial — fearing it could influence a jury’s decision on awarding damages.
Here’s the latest: On July 27th, the Federal Court judge came back with his decision on the matter and sided with the NBA star. The order explains that he agrees with Rose’ logic and prohibiting evidence of his net worth is not only appropriate but necessary. He says that if the jury were shown evidence of his wealth including assets, income and net-worth it could improperly influence the jury’s determination of liability and compensatory damages. The judge ordered that no evidence pertaining to the NBA star’s wealth to be shown to the jury members for the trial scheduled to begin later this year.
Here’s the backstory: Rose was sued earlier this year by a woman – who filed the complaint under Jane Joe – accusing the NBA star and two of his friends of drugging her and then gang raping her inside her apartment. The woman explained she dated Rose from 2011 to 2013 and during the time she said Rose attempted to pressure her into doing various sexual activities such as masturbating on camera, allowing him to have sex with her friends and demanding she participate in group sex.
Back in August 2013, the woman claimed that Rose and his two friends, Ryan Allen and Randall Hampton, invited her to the NBA star’s L.A. mansion where she claims someone slipped a drug into her drink with the aim of raping her. She claimed that she escaped the home with a friend but later in the evening Rose and his friends broke into her home and gang raped her while she was unconscious. The woman filed suit and is demanding 21 million dollar in damages.
The NBA star responded back, denying all allegations that he raped his ex-girlfriend, stating that she gave him and his friends consent to have sex.
Rose claimed that the woman was only upset with him due to her not being reimbursed for sex toys used during the night in question. He said that once he started ignoring her texts, she became even angrier with him. Rose demanded the entire suit be thrown out and the woman not be awarded a dime.
The suit is in the discovery phase with both parties taking depositions and exchanging documents preparing for the upcoming trial later this year.
Last month, Rose returned to court demanding his net worth and wealth NOT be talked about during the trial. He said that he anticipates the woman mixing in evidence of his net worth in an effort to prejudice the jury in favor of rendering a large verdict.
Rose explained that the woman has everything to gain and he has everything to lose, if the jury is allowed to hear testimony as to his income, assets or other financial information. He believed information about his net worth would confuse the jury and if they heard the evidence about him being rich it could influence them , into believing it was being presented to them because he was somehow liable for the damage caused to Jane Doe. He pleaded with the judge to not allow talk about his wealth during the trial and demanded it be banned from even being spoke about in the courtroom.
