Demarcus Cousins Responds To Lawsuit Accusing Him Of Attack
theJasmineBRAND.com exclusively reports, NBA star Demarcus Cousins is firing back at the lawsuit accusing him of assault inside a New York nightclub, arguing he only got physical to protect his friend Matt Barnes from irreparable harm.
Here’s the latest: On May 5th, Demarcus responded to a lawsuit, in which he was accused of physically attacking two persons inside a NYC night club, saying he was defending his friend facing irreparable harm. He says any alleged injuries they suffered were due to acts of other people out of his control.
The NBA star blames the alleged victims for their injuries due to their own negligence. He says if at the end of the case a verdict of judgement is awarded to the plaintiffs, then the amount of damages should be reduced by the percentage the plaintiffs caused the situation.
Demarcus is demanding the entire lawsuit be thrown out. Meanwhile, Matt Barnes filed docs recently seeking to have the case put on pause until the outcome of the criminal investigation into the incident, saying he would risk self-incrimination if he has to participate in both cases at the same time.
Here’s the backstory: Earlier this year, Cousins and fellow NBA star Matt Barnes were sued by Jasmine Besiso and Myrone Powell accusing them of attacking them inside a NY club.
They claimed back in December, they were in the VIP area when Barnes approached her and began choking her, without provocation. Jasmine says that her friend (Myrone) then tried to step in to intervene, only to have Cousins attack him.
They sued demanding damages for the assault, battery and emotional distress. Barnes and Cousins released a statement denying the incident inside the club and said they were the real victims of the incident.
