(EXCLUSIVE) Sean Kingston Pleads w/ Judge To Throw Out Lawsuit Over Unpaid Jewelry Bill: My mansion was robbed!
Sean Kingston Pleas w/ Judge To Throw Out Lawsuit
theJasmineBRAND.com exclusively reports Sean Kingston is pleading with a judge to vacate a $344k default judgement he was hit with over an unpaid jewelry bill. The 27-year-old artist is arguing that the recent burglary on his L.A. home has taken up his time and he has even had to relocate after the incident.
Here’s the latest: On June 2nd, Sean Kingston headed to court demanding the default judgement be vacated and thrown out. He claims he was never served with the lawsuit, pointing out that the process server apparently showed up to a home that he’s never lived at.
Further, Kingston says that he never knew about the case. He even blames the recent burglary at his Los Angeles home for his failure to respond, saying he had to relocate following the incident and has been busy.
He is demanding the judge toss the default judgement and dismiss the entire lawsuit, arguing he has no ties to Florida and the jeweler filed in the wrong state.
Here’s the backstory: Florida-based Haimov Jewelers sued the singer/rapper accusing him of screwing them out of $44k by refusing to pay for items they loaned him.
The company said they allowed Kingston to take a Rolex and diamond bracelet from their store, due to his promise he would pay the bill the next day. He never showed up and despite numerous demand he blew off the jeweler.
They sued demanding $44k+ in damages for the unpaid bill. Earlier this year, the judge granted the jewelers motion for a default judgement in the amount of $314,138.22. He stated the rapper was properly served with the legal docs and failed to respond.
The default judgement was higher than the original $44k number due to the judge tacking on retroactive interest to the damages.
