“True To The Game” Indie Snags Top 20
Congratulations to “True To The Game!” theJasmineBRAND.com exclusively reports, over the weekend the independent film starring Columbus Short, came in at #17, grossing over $502k.
With a high per screen average, the Preston A. Whitmore II directed film had the 7th highest PSA out of the top 20, which is impressive – especially since it did not have a big studio budget. Meanwhile, “9/11” starring Whoopi Goldberg and Charlie Sheen opened the same day as “True To the Game” and made $163k, which is a 3rd of what “True To The Game” made.
Produced by Manny Halley, this is a first time that an African American producer produced, financed and distributed their very first film.
“True to the Game” is an American drama film based on Teri Woods’ novel of the same name. It was directed by Preston A. Whitmore II, written by Nia Hill, and starring Columbus Short, Andra Fuller, Vivica A. Fox, Nelsan Ellis (in his final film role), Draya Michele and Jennifer Freeman.

This was a great film. It shows a would be businessman trying to beat the odds by maximizing the reward of drug dealing but somehow avoiding the risk of death by automatic weapon. He does find success and true love. But too true to the game death finds him before he can escape the streets and build a future with his ride or die true love.
