BET Canceles ‘The Quad’

BET has pulled the plug on one of its drama series. According to reports, the network has canceled The Quad less than a week after its second season finale.

The Quad was created by Felicia D. Henderson and Charles Holland. The show starred Anika Noni Rose as Dr. Eva Fletcher, a newly elected President of the fictional Georgia A&M University. It also starred Ruben Santiago-Hudson, Sean Blakemore and Jasmine Guy.

According to reports, the show was pulled due to poor ratings. The show’s ratings decreased from its first to second season. Season 2 averaged a 0.2 rating in adults 18-49 and 553,000 viewers per episode in Live+same day according to Nielsen, each metric down around 30% from the first season.

Last fall, BET pulled the plug on Being Mary Jane, starring Gabrielle Union.

Are you sad to see The Quad go?

Ugh, BET doesn’t give their shows a chance to find an audience. Smh.

I don’t think it realistic to judge shows on live and same day viewership. No one watches television live these days. I catch up on this show every other weekend with 2 episodes at a time!
They wont even get it a proper ending. Sad I invested my time in in.

Right! It makes you not want to watch shit because you get left hanging.. Now we will never know if Brolin kept the baby. And I always watch shows days later on the DVR.. They have to take that into consideration. Smh

I AGREE WITH YOU KEVIN, I HAVE SO MUCH STUFF I HAVE SET TO RECORD EVERY SINGLE DAY, AND THE QUAD IS ONE OF THEM SET TO RECORD. I CAN’T GET TO IT RIGHT AWAY. YOU ALL NEED TO THINK ABOUT THAT BEFORE YOU START COUNTING THE NUMBERS.

OMG I am so tired investing my time into BET’s scripted shows and they end up being cancelled. Very frustrating. But those ignorant shows like “Man Cave”, “Blackcard Revoke”, and “Real Househusbands (or whatever the name)” continue. SMDH

You sound silly, what you should be complaining about is all those reality shows that make black woman look “HOEISH”…

I had such high hopes for this series yet, each time I watched, the writing became weaker and more convoluted. Too many characters doesn’t give viewers a chance to know or care about any of them. Anika is a gem and held it down, but even her supreme talents can’t carry a show.

I thought it got better as the season went on.. I liked the Brolin/Cedric story. Didn’t understand why bring Sheryl Lee Ralph on and kill her off so soon.. Anika was good! Was it must watch TV not at all, but they did enough to keep my tuning in every week!! Smh

Loved this show. Disappointed. BET doesn’t support scripted shows like they should. Wish they would stop acting like they’re in the poor house all the time. Viacom owns BET or some of it. You would think they had more money/budgets.

Really? This sucks. I dont watch anything else on that station. They always support garbage and kill the good shows. Im through with BET. So tired of the years of disrespect for their African American viewers. Thank God for new technological advances that allow for so many media creators to enter the market. We will just need to continue making the change that we want to see.

And where is the Being Mary Jane movie they owe us? I agree that DVRing these shows needs to count in the ratings numbers. I DVR everything and The Quad was a really good show with a talented cast with realistic story line. The last time we had a show about our people in college was A Different World. It was good seeing this perspective dramatically played out

What, get me hooked and you cancel it, I don’t usually watch BET and that’s what i’ll go back to doing, not watching BET, period.
