A Reboot of Eddie Murphy’s “Boomerang” In Development At BET
BET is prepping a half-hour comedic reboot of Eddie Murphy’s hit film Boomerang. Premiering in 1992, the film was a romantic comedy film directed by Reginald Hudlin. It starred Murphy as Marcus Graham, a hotshot advertising executive who also happens to be an insatiable womanizer and male chauvinist. When he meets his new boss, Jacqueline Broyer (Robin Givens), Marcus discovers that she is essentially a female version of himself, and realizes he is receiving the same treatment that he delivers to others. The film also features Halle Berry, David Alan Grier, Martin Lawrence and Chris Rock.
The writer’s and production team for the project have not yet been determined. 10-episodes have been ordered and the series, similar to the original film, will revolve around a successful executive who finds that his lifestyle choices have turned back on him when his new boss turns out to be a bigger deviant that he is. The project is described as an updated version that explores contemporary workplace dynamics, including the changing role of gender, office politics, relationships and the conflicts between Generation X and millennials.
What are your thoughts about the reboot and who should be cast?
