Cicely Tyson Honored In Handprint Ceremony
Legendary Tony and Emmy Award winning actress Cicely Tyson was honored at a handprint ceremony on Friday April 27th. The 93-year-old actress who has starred in movies such as “The Roots” and “The Autobiography Of Miss Jane Pittman” had her hand and footprints immortalized in front of Hollywood’s iconic TCL Chinese Theatre. She stated about the honor,
The fact that you thought enough of what I was trying to do throughout my entire career is worthy of this moment, I cannot tell you how grateful I am.
This ceremony was apart of the Turner Classic Movies Classic Film Festival. Director, actor and filmmaker Tyler Perry hosted the event. Perry who has worked with her in his films “Diary Of A Mad Black Woman” and “Madea’s Family Reunion” congratulated the star saying, “You so deserve it. What a life and journey. We all love you!,” he shared on Twitter.

Tyson been nominated for 11 Primetime Emmy Awards and has won the honor twice for the films “Oldest Living Confederate Widow Tells All” and “The Autobiography of Miss Jane Pittman.” Tyson’s most recent nomination came from her appearance in How To Get Away With Murder. She has won also won awards from the Black Film Critics Circle Awards, Black Reel Awards, African-American Film Critics Association, Screen Actors Guild Awards, TV Land Awards and various other awards.
She was nominated for an Oscar and a Golden Globe for for 1972’s “Sounder.” She has done stage work as well and won a Tony Award, Outer Critics Award and Drama Desk Award for her role in “The Trip to Bountiful.” Tyson shared that when her agent called her to tell her about the handprint ceremony, she was surprised. “And I said,
‘You’ve got to be kidding me?’ I mean, it’s the last thing in the world that I was even thinking of. It came as truly a surprise.
