Kenya Barris Snags New Series ‘Besties’ + Prepping New Film About Divorce
Business is booming for Kenya Barris. The Black-ish creator was given a series order by Freeform for a new series titled, Besties. The show revolves around the coming-of-age relationship between two lifelong female best friends. Barris created the series with Ranada Shepard, who are exec producers for ABC Signature Studios.
Barris has also snagged a deal with 20th Century Fox, who has acquire an untitled film about divorce that will be written by him. He will produce the project through his Khalabo Ink Society production company, with an eye towards directing. E. Brian Dobbins of Artists First will also produce. He will script an idea based on his own real-life experiences with the difficulties of marriage.
The gritty, pull-no-punches comedy explores exactly what happens when everyone’s favorite couple calls it quits.
