Tyler Perry Offers Cosby Show Actor Geoffrey Owens A Job After He Goes Viral For Working At Trader Joe’s
Over the weekend, photos of Geoffrey Owens, 57, known for his role as Elvin Tibideaux on The Cosby Show, surfaced after a customer from a Trader Joe’s in Clifton, NJ, snagged a photo of Owens working as a cashier.
Tyler Perry, who often speaks about how he isn’t opposed to helping out hardworking actors and actresses, sent a tweet amidst the social media uproar surrounding Owens. Perry offered the actor a role for a new series he is about to start shooting. Perry tweeted with a hashtag early Tuesday morning, admiring Owens’ work ethic and calling for him to come be a part of the drama he is working on. He wrote:
#GeoffreyOwens I’m about to start shootings OWN’s number one drama next week! Come join us!!! I have so much respect for people who hustle between gigs. The measure of a true artist.

Owens has come forward since the commencement of this slight mayhem. After receiving so much attention, Owens has confirmed he has quit his job.
I kind of feel like that character in that Woody Allen movie that wakes up one morning and he’s a celebrity all of a sudden – it came out of nowhere. I really want to thank everybody out there — for the incredible support, the amazing support and positivity that they’ve shown for me. It’s quite astounding.
Owens has yet to respond if he would accept or decline the role.
