Nicki Minaj Pledges to Help Trinidadian Flood Victims
The self-proclaimed “Queen of Rap” is using her celebrity for a higher cause. Rapper Nicki Minaj took to social media to pledge a promise to help the affected communities in her home country of Trinidad after massive widespread flooding devastated the twin islands of Trinidad and Tobago. Last week, rainfall caused water to raise to deadly levels in the islands, trapping residents in their homes in East, Central, and Southwest Trinidad. Nicki Minaj mentioned that she is working with fellow Trini musician, Fay Ann Lyons, to provide relief. She tweeted:
“Trinidad broken hearted to see this. Hope I can help.”
She continued:
“Trinidad, I am working on getting many different resources to you now. Fay-Ann & I have been communicating non stop. I will let you know exactly who I’m donating the funds to & hope to be with you very soon. I Love you. We will get through this.”
Fay Ann Lyons took to Instagram to express her gratitude for Nicki’s involvement on Instagram. She said:
“Thank you @nickiminaj for the deep concern for your fellow Trinis. We know your love for home is real and you staying in contact daily shows it. We are definitely appreciating your generosity. We had a great walkabout today, and both @bunjigarlin and I are 100 percent with you. #Queen #Trinidad.”
Rapper Busta Rhymes – who is also of Carribean descent – also acknowledged the devastation of the floods in Trinidad and Tobago on social media. He said:
“@bustarhymes PRAYERS UP FOR ALL OF OUR PEOPLE OF TRINIDAD.”
