Michael B. Jordan’s “Creed 2” Biggest Opening of Entire Rocky Franchise

Creed II made history! Reportedly the film is officially the box office winner for the Rocky franchise with a franchise-best opening weekend.

The original Creed was directed by Ryan Coogler and starred Michael B. Jordan as Adonis Creed.

Creed 2 was directed by Steven Caple Jr and revisited characters from Rocky IV. Jordan’s character faced off against Ivan Drago’s son Viktor played by Florian Munteanu.

As in the original creed, Sylvester Stallone played an instrumental role, as he’s done in the Rocky franchise over 40 years ago, appearing in six of the films .

Box Office Mojo reports that the latest estimates for Creed II have it setting new records for the Rocky franchise. The sequel is estimated to have grossed just over $35 million domestically. The original Creed brought in $29.6M opening. When the full five-day extended weekend (including this past Wednesday and Thursday) is added, Creed II is estimated to make $55.8M – beating Creed’s $44.1M opening from 2015.
