Billboard held their annual Women in Music Awards Thursday evening and Patti Labelle was able to present Ariana Grande with the “Woman of the Year” award. Before Labelle introduced Grande, who’s had one tumultuous year career and personal wise, Labelle shared a few words about Grande,
I said, ‘Sing like that little white black girl that you are.’ That’s what I said! She got soul like a mug!
After Grande ended her relationship with Mac Miller in May 2018, and almost four months later, in September, Miller passed away from a accidental drug overdose. During the four month time span, Grande started dating her ex-fiancé, SNL comedian Pete Davidson. Davidson and Grande were engaged in June after only dating a few weeks, and split in October.
Aside from her personal life, Grande released her fourth studio album “sweetener” in August, and peaked #1 on the Billboard Hot 200 charts. The 15-track album features Missy Elliott, Pharrell Williams, and Nicki Minaj; singles from the Grammy nominated album include “breathin’,” “no tears left to cry,” and “God is a woman.”
