Russell Simmons Wants Tiffany Haddish to Stop Wearing Fur: “Reconsider your protest!”

Comedienne Tiffany Haddish is taking on her own form of protest in support of the #BlackLivesMatter movement. As previously reported, this particular protest came about when she asked a fan to prove her love to her. She said this in an Instagram video:

“Hey guys. It’s me, Tiffany Haddish – and I just wanna give a shout-out and a thank you to one of my fans that were here at the comedy store tonight who gave me this beautiful jacket. Now, she wasn’t planning on it but she said she loved me. And I was like, ‘If you really love me, let me have your jacket!’ And she did. So, thank you so much boo! I’mma wear it as much as possible, because- I don’t know if you guys know this about me – but I’m to start protesting. I’mma wear fur everyday until they stop killing Black people. When the police stop killing Black people, I’ll stop wearing fur. It’s my new protest. So, sorry PETA! Don’t be mad at me! Be mad at the police. When they stop killing Black people, I’ll stop wearing fur. See how that go? ‘Cause people are important, and so are the animals – to keep me warm. Thank you, boo! I love you for loving me! This little raccoon is so cute! I look good in this raccoon!”

Hip hop mogul Russell Simmons, a devout vegan, made it clear that he is completely against Tiffany’s fashionable form of protest. He blames the Black community’s use of fur on White supremacy. He commented on Tiffany’s video:

“@unclerush Practice loving all Gods creatures some of that love could include a wake up to the oppressors be strong way things like “wake up white people and all people while u sit idle black people are dying your Silence is LOUD and unless you too speak up with me you are guilty of all that your brothers and sisters do not speaking you it allow it to happen is why Malcolm said the white man is the devil not individuals but the collective actions are horrible Each individual of all races should fight police brutality and each who has no voice is guilty of collaborative”

He continued:

“@unclerush White supremacy is a disease that takes on many forms and has many symptoms The abuse of other beings will not address that …or heal ourselves I love you Tiffany but i wish you could reconsider this route of protest”

Russell Simmons also feels that the Black community needs to join forces to fight police brutality in a separate, fur-less protest. He shared this post on Instagram:

“@unclerush The fact that so many african Americans support wearing fur as an act of protest against police abuse should be seen by the activist communities as a sign that we (the black community) feel frustrated and alone and that black lives dont seem to matter to you ..compassionate communities must ban together and end police brutality”

He continued his explanation in his caption:

“@unclerush I received so many calls from my friends in the animal rights community saying why did she choose fur as her form of protest Yes people i agree that the suffering of any of Gods innocent living beings is horrible And un called for ..family please understand ..Hurt people Hurt people The Black community is hurting And they should not feel like they have to go it alone … I do agree that in my many times protesting police brutality i have seen the same people who occupied wallstreet the same people whom i encountered at the women’s march and the same people who i have seen at animal rights events We are the compassionate ones that we are waiting for …we must stand up for each other… Please let’s all be sensitive to ALL suffering and although i think the form of protest is misguided i do acknowledge that it is a call for help ….do you? #tiffanyhaddish #peta #blacklivesmatter #animalwelfare”

Animal rights organization PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) issued their own response to Tiffany’s video.

“We love you, Tiffany, and as an animal rights organization, we advocate for and believe in kindness towards all, including animals. We hope that you choose to protest in a different way that doesn’t harm any humans or any animals, but is kind to all.”

How do you feel about Tiffany Haddish’s refusal to stop wearing fur? Let us know in the comments.
