Jussie Smollett is now being identified as a suspect in Chicago police’s ongoing investigation into his assault which took place around 2 a.m. on Jan. 29. Chicago police spokesman Anthony Guglielmi made the news public via Twitter on Wednesday,
Case Update: Jussie Smollett is now officially classified as a suspect in a criminal investigation by #ChicagoPolice for filing a false police report (Class 4 felony). Detectives are currently presenting evidence before a Cook County Grand Jury.

Since Smollett filed the report that faithful evening, investigators have reportedly combed through several hours of security footage from private and public entities from the puzzling evening, but were not able to uncover the beating Smollett says he endured.

As of Tuesday, reprots claimed police had received a new tip within the case, citing the actor had allegeadly been spotted with the two brothers Ola and Abel Osundairo on the evening of the attack. The police countered reports claiming the tip was
unfounded.
According to reports, Smollett’s legal counsel declined to comment on the development within the investigation.
