Ashley Graham Has Awkward Red Carpet Moment w/ Jason Momoa, Lisa Bonet Interjects [VIDEO]
Model Ashley Graham served as one of the official hosts of the red carpet at this year’s Oscars, where she interviewed several A-list stars, while also commenting on who/what they were wearing. However, things took a bit of an awkward turn when she was interviewing Jason Momoa and his wife, Lisa Bonet.
When interviewing celebrities on the red carpet, especially at a major event such as the Oscars, sometimes there are awesome interviews and sometimes, well things can get pretty awkward, pretty fast. That’s what happened when Ashley Graham, in an attempt to connect with him, asked Aquaman star Jason Momoa to perform the Haka, which led to an uncomfortable moment when his wife, Lisa Bonet, shut the request down.
If you don’t know, the ceremonial Haka is a culturally ritualistic dance performed in Hawaiian cultures. It’s regularly performed at a host of traditional Hawaiian gatherings, to commemorate special occasions, achievements, etc.
Basically, Haka is a sacred dance that is taken very seriously by native Hawaiians, which is probably why Bonet didn’t approve of Graham’s request for Momoa to perform it. After Graham initially asks Momoa to give her “one Haka move,” Bonet whispered and gestured to express that it wasn’t happening. Graham still continued to ask, leading Momoa to uncomfortably stick out his tongue and perhaps offer an abbreviated version of the dance.
