MC Lyte Cast In ABC’s ‘New York Undercover’ Reboot
MC Lyte will be one of the familiar faces in the highly-anticipated New York Undercover reboot.
It will take place 20 years later after the original, and tell the story of two new detectives solving New York’s biggest crimes.
After her appearance in Power, it’s highly likely that fans are looking forward to seeing MC Lyte on the small screen more often. This time, the emcee and actress will be playing Lt. April Freemen. She’s described as “a hard-driving boss with a genius IQ,” according to reports.
And it’s safe to say she’s excited too as she shared the news on Instagram.
“Thank you for the opportunity… Let’s make history!”
Lyte has been making her rounds lately, so she’s not new to this in any way.
Along with Power, she’s appeared in shows like Tales on BET, Unsolved on USA, and has a recurring role on Queen of the South and S.W.A.T. And New York Undercover isn’t the only project she has coming up. She’s also going to be in Bad Hair with Vanessa Williams, Michelle Hurd and Laverne Cox, Sylvie with Tessa Thompson, and Loved to Death that will air on TV One.
We see you MC!
Malik Yoba will also be making his return as J.C.Williams, as he was pretty much the face of the original series. He was also the only cast member to be in all four seasons of the original show. New York Undercover actually made history as the first police drama airing in the U.S. to cast two people of color in starring roles.

Otmara Marrero, Toby Sandeman, Anna Enger and Octavio Pizano will also have major roles in the upcoming reboot. Anthony Hemingway will also serve as the Executive Producer.

Have a moment of nostalgia with this throwback clip of the original.
