Joann “Buku Abi” Kelly, who is the singer’s oldest daughter, possibly sent him a subliminal message.
“My name is Buku ABI. Not Joann, not JoJo, not “_____ daughter. Nothing besides Buku will work for me. If you don’t know me personally please don’t call me anything but ‘Buku’ or ‘Buku Abi’ Ty.”
In his video, R. Kelly called her “daughter Joann.”
Buku previously didn’t want to recognize her father as the one who gave her life.
One fan told her on a birthday post she made celebrating herself:

“Happy bday. Now support the man that gv you life”
Another fan responded with:
“God? The creator? Allah?”
Buku suggested she was all for that answer and wrote:
“hello?????????”

She also took time to respond to her mother, Drea Kelly’s comment.

Buku has been open about being “torn” on how to feel amid accusations against R. Kelly. He was indicted on 10 counts of aggravated sexual assault, including alleged sexual crimes against minors. At the same time, R. Kelly is currently out on bail for failing to pay $161,000 in back child support.
Buku opened up about their father/daughter relationship in an interview:
“Honestly, it’s been a few years since I’ve last seen him or spoken to him. I don’t know exactly how long, but it’s been a while. “
“I’m very torn, at the end of the day, it’s still family, he’s still my blood. So yes, I do still love my father and that’s something I want people to understand. I never came out and said what I said to make people feel like I hate him, or I’m bashing him because that’s not it.”

Buku was possibly referring to a statement in her Instagram story in which she called her a father a “monster.”
She continued in the interview and said:
“At the end of the day, you have to be responsible for your actions. If my father is a toxic person, then we will have to love him from a distance. There is no love lost, I just had to separate myself.”
