Meek Mill Granted New Hearing In A New Court Following String Of Setbacks
After years of the efforts of his legal team seeming to be in vain, Philadelphia rapper Meek Mill has finally been granted a new hearing in a new court, according to recent reports.
Meek Mill and his legal team have claimed for years that he is unable to get a fair trial in Philadelphia due to what some consider the bias of Judge Genece Brinkley, who has been accused of having such a strong vendetta against Mill that she has gone out of her way to ensure he ends up back in jail.
Reportedly, Mill’s dealing with Brinkley are officially a thing of the past, as he was recently granted the right to a new trial in a completely new court. This news follows the recent appeal filed by the Philadelphia District Attorney’s Office requesting that Mill receive a new trial.
At the time the appeal was filed, Mill’s attorney Jordan Siev had this to say:
“We’re looking forward to the oral argument before the Superior Court of Pennsylvania and to, hopefully, having Meek’s conviction vacated. In light of the District Attorney’s recent filing, where he supports the granting of a new trial to Meek and the recusal of Judge Brinkley, we hope to have this injustice rectified once and for all.”
In the appeal filed by Philadelphia District Attorney Larry Krasner, he specifically highlighted the “public perception of unfairness and bias” throughout Mill’s highly public trial, including pointing out the repeated instances where Brinkley overstepped her duties as a judge and demonstrated considerable bias.
Things had apparently gotten so out of control that Philadelphia’s top prosecutor sided with Mill and argued that he had the right to a new trial with a different judge.
