Tory Lanez Says Video Director Tried To Replace A Darker Complexion Model For A Lighter Model: ‘I’m Not Going To Allow Any Of These Directors To De-Value Our Black Women’
Tory Lanez is the real MVP! The rapper is making headlines after he posted himself on the set of the “Good Love” video with Nafe Smallz. In the clip, Lanez is jamming to the music with a beautiful dark skin woman. He starts to seem concerned when she’s removed from the shot. He then pretty much says “time out” when she is replaced with a woman who has lighter skin. He made it clear he wanted the first model, but still told the second one,
“You look beautiful by the way”
The dark skin model goes back into the shot as she and Lanez continue with the video. Lanez also wrote a caption to go along with the clip he posted and called out the director for colorism, saying it’s something he sees frequently.
This is an On -Going problem in our community of entertainment that needs to stop . As a black man , Sometimes I’m going to joke about the black community just like we all do . BUT WHAT IM NOT GOING TO DO IS ALLOW ANY OF THESE DIRECTORS TO DE-VALUE OUR BLACK WOMEN … countless times I’ve seen directors swap out our women of color for women of lighter complexion, or women with straighter hair ETC . … IT IS OUR RESPONSIBILITY AS ARTIST TO STAND UP AND NOT LET THIS HAPPEN .. it’s BEEN time to embrace our woman of color #BlackIsBeautiful“

The final product of the video has been released, and Lanez saluted Smallz for keeping the first woman in the video.
“Shoutout @nafesmallzfor keeping shorty in the video”
