Sweden Charges A$AP Rocky With Assault, Rapper ‘Very Disappointed’

A$AP Rocky has officially been charged with assault in Sweden.

He has been held in jail since July 3 after getting into a street fight with a man. He was denied bail and ordered to stay in jail until prosecutors decided if they were going to charge him. Now, they have filed charges against the rapper.

His lawyer, Slobodan Jovicic, insists that A$AP Rocky was acting in self-defense.

“We think it was self-defense, but the prosecutor has chosen to go with the injured party’s version.”

He added that A$AP Rocky, 30, is “very disappointed” in the outcome as the prosecutor has

“chosen to go with the other party’s version.”

Swedish public prosecutor Daniel Suneson also said after looking at the video footage of the incident, he was convinced A$AP Rocky’s actions were criminal

“despite claims of self-defense and provocation.”

He added,

“It is worth noting that I have had access to a greater amount of material than that which has previously been available on the internet. In addition to video material, the injured party’s statements have been supported by witness statements.”

Suneson collected surveillance footage from the Grand Hotel and a nearby burger restaurant as evidence. He also relied on text messages from A$AP Rocky’s bodyguard who had conversations about the incident, along with texts from the rapper’s assistant, and a DNA from a bottle that was used during the fight.

The other man in the fight was not charged, Suneson said because there wasn’t enough evidence against him.

Court documents say that A$AP Rocky threw the man to the ground and then attacked him.

A$AP also allegedly said that his bodyguard wanted to

“calm things down.”

He also pointed out,

“we were three against two.”

He reportedly told police,

“I got him down on the ground. I hit and kicked.”

Unfortunately, he won’t be getting out on bail as Sweden doesn’t have a bail system, despite President Donald Trump’s vow.

A spokesman for the Swedish protection authority fired back with,

“The Swedish judicial system is completely independent and does not take into consideration outside pressure from politicians or others.”

A legal expert in the country added,

“Actually, the Swedish constitution prevents any minister, even the Prime Minister, getting involved, or even saying something about an individual case.”
