Jason Mitchell’s Character To Be Killed Off On ‘The Chi’
Showtime’s “The Chi” is saying goodbye to Jason Mitchell’s character, Brandon, for good.
Brandon will be killed off on the forthcoming third season of the series. The co-president of the network, Gary Levine, announced the news Friday.
“There is a lot of great life in ‘The Chi’ and there’s also death in ‘The Chi’ and that’s how we’ll be dealing with it.”
Mitchell’s character being killed off comes after he was accused of sexually harassing women on the set, including his on-screen girlfriend, Tiffany Boone.

She reportedly made several complaints against Boone. She was said to be uncomfortable filming scenes with him, so her fiance Marque Richardson of Netflix’s “Dear White People” was present. She ultimately asked producers to release her from the show.

Ayanna Floyd, the second-season showrunner also made a statement about Mitchell’s alleged harassment, pointing out that the show’s creator Lena Waithe told her about his reported behavior.
“When I took the helm in season two, it was Lena who informed me of the issues between Jason Mitchell and Tiffany Boone from season one, and that Tiffany was thinking of leaving the show because of it. As a result of this information, I discussed Tiffany’s claims with the studio’s HR department and set up HR presentations for the writers, cast and crew. Ultimately, everyone was well aware of Jason’s behavior and his multiple HR cases, including Lena, the creator and an executive producer of the show, who is very involved at the studio and network level. As showrunner, I did everything I could to deal with his behavior, by speaking with the studio’s HR department multiple times and instructing one actress to call HR herself, before I became a target of his rage and inappropriateness, and had to report him to HR, as well.”
Waithe also spoke out about the allegations as she faced criticism for being aware of Mitchell’s alleged misconduct but not firing him.

“I was told [Tiffany] wanted to go – one, because I think she was just at a place of there’s no repairing it. And I think she wanted to explore other opportunities, and I didn’t wanna hold her back from that. I’m never gonna say, ‘Hey! You stay here. I don’t care what you want.’ I really want to respect her wishes. Another thing, again, I’m not really in control over who stays or goes on the show. I can make a pitch! I can say, ‘Yo, let’s get rid of this person.’ But, ultimately it’s not my decision. As a matter of fact, I can be on some, ‘Oh, it’s me or Jason’ – and they could pick Jason!”
Reports also said that he was inappropriate in the same way with women on the set of an upcoming Netflix comedy “Desperados.” He was let go from that role as well after an investigation.
Mitchell has previously starred in films Straight Outta Compton, Superfly and Detroit.
