Meek Mill Is Officially Off Probation!
Meek Mill is free free!
The rapper announced that he’s no longer on probation. He revealed the news after leaving a Philadelphia courtroom Tuesday.
In a press conference, he thanked his supporters for backing him through the process.
“I’m very thankful from the bottom of my heart — everybody that ever mentioned my name or said, ‘Free Meek’ or helped me get to this position.”
The crowd started to yell “Free Meek!” and he let them know that’s already done.
“Meek free. I’m not on probation no more. I don’t have to go to court no more.”
He said his work with social justice will keep going strong.
“I know y’all probably got family members in jail or people going through the same thing as me, and I will continue to do what I do with the reform movement and help the people who help me.”
Meek’s freedom comes after a judge overturned a conviction from drug and gun charges that dates back to 2008. In that incident, Meek served months in jail after being convicted for carrying a gun into a store. He then had five years of parole.
He also went to jail in 2017 and served five months of a 2-4 year sentence for violating parole from his 2008 conviction.
The judge who reversed the conviction determined that a trial court judge should have granted Meek a new trial after new evidence surfaced.
Still, Meek has now pleaded guilty to the 2008 misdemeanor possession of a firearm without a license, along with the six other charges that were remaining. Still, the case will not have to go to trial, and he won’t have to serve any more jail time.
Fans can see his journey to freedom on the Free Meek documentary on Amazon Prime.
Congrats Meek!
