Kanye West Talks Porn And Sex Addiction, Asking People On His Album Not To Have Premarital Sex, And Running For President

Kanye West is known for having a quotable here and there. But we don’t know if we’ve ever seen him like this.

In an interview with Apple Music’s Zane Lowe on Beats 1, Kanye West opened up about everything from his previous porn addiction to asking the people working on his Jesus Is King album to abstain from premarital sex. And, despite all of the spiritual changes he’s experienced recently, Kanye West still dubs himself the king of rap.

On how Playboy led to his addiction to porn:

“For me, Playboy was my gateway into full-on pornography addiction. My dad had a Playboy left out at age five and it’s affected almost every choice I made for the rest of my life.

From age five til now, having to kick the habit and it just presents itself in the open like it’s OK and I stand up and say, ‘No, it’s not ok.'”

On his sex addiction after his mother, Donda West, passed in 2007.

“I think when people have been addicted to something like, if you ask somebody that’s a drug addict it’s like you say, ‘Are you still addicted?’ Well yeah, you turn it off actually. It’s like, with God I’ve been able to beat things that had a full control of me.

You know that Playboy that I found when I was five-years-old was written all over the moment when I was at the MTV awards with the Timberlands, the Balmain jeans, before people were rocking Balmain jeans, and the Hennessy bottle.

It’s like that was such a script out of a rockstar’s life. My mom had passed a year before and I said some people drown themselves in drugs. And I drowned myself in my addiction [to sex].”

On how his spirituality began:

“One of the things that happened when I went to the hospital is I started reading the Bible and I started writing and copying out Bible verses and a person came to my house that wasn’t a Christian and told me come over, and 30 minutes later I was in handcuffs headed to the hospital. Now this person very well may have saved my life because when you’re in an episode you could jump off the side of a balcony, you can stab your eye out, you can do a lot of things when you’re ramped up like that, but one of the things that people do now is they try to discriminate against my mind and my thoughts because of that moment.”

“Now that I’m in service to Christ, my job is to spread the Gospel, to let people know what Jesus has done for me. I’ve spread a lot of things. There was a time I let you know what high fashion had done for me, I was letting you know what the Hennessy had done for me… now I’m letting you know what Jesus has done for me.”

“God doesn’t exist only in four walls. God is everything and everywhere.”
On asking people who worked on his projects to abstain from premarital sex:
“There’s times where I was asking people to not have premarital sex while they were working on the album. There were times when I went to people who were working on other projects and said ‘Could you please just work and focus on this.’
“It’s known when people pray together, families that pray together stay together. When people pray together and fast together the power is increased.”

On releasing Jesus Is Born on Chrismas Day:
“I will continue to be used by God. I don’t love suffering. No one loves pain but I’m still, through the good times and the suffering I praise God because I experience the blessings and I also experience the lessons. I’m just so blessed for everything that I’ve been through. To be standing here 15 years in, be making an album with the work, the paintings still are inspiring to me. Where I still want to listen. Music is my job that’s why I’m putting out the album. Serving God is my job, that’s why I’m here.”
“I quite enjoy the sound of my own voice. And apparently by the streams, bilions of people do also.”
On being the best “artist of all time.”
“I am unquestionably, undoubtedly, the greatest human artist of all time. It’s not even a question at this point. It’s just a fact.”
When it comes to how his wife, Kim Kardashian, is adjusting to his transformation, fans saw the two get into a spat after he disagreed with Kardashian’s sexy Thiery Mugler dress to the Met Gala earlier this year.

West responded to the criticism he’s received since then.

“I suffer and I appreciate the suffering because we can feel a little bit of what Jesus experienced, but I suffer on social media. There are other married men that I know are happy to hear me say that.

Social media prompts women, in particular, to put out content that they wouldn’t in the past. When I was younger and I wanted to see something like that I had to pay someone who was older … Now I have friends who have kids in high school and it’s readily available.”

As for his political views, West has sparked lots of controversy with his support for President Donald Trump. He said in the interview that he plans to take his talents to the White House and become President of the U.S. himself one day.

“We’re working on some things right now. There will be a time when I will be the president of the U.S. and I will remember… any founder that didn’t have the capacity to understand culturally what we were doing.”

He also spoke on wearing the red MAGA hat that referenced Trump’s controversial slogan Make America Great Again.

“Now that I’m in service to Christ my job is to spread the gospel. I’m no longer a slave … I’m a son now, a son of God and I’m free, but this shows you that God is hilarious. Liberals love art and now, I am unquestionably, undoubtedly the greatest human artist of all time. It’s just a fact, right?

So, to put a red hat on was God’s practical joke on all liberals like, ‘Nooooo not Kanye!’ But those liberals never, we are the same human beings, it’s not man versus machine—man is the machine. We are God’s imperfect creation because we perish.”

West went on to explain how he ended last year’s feud with Drake and his friendship status with Jay-Z.

“You cannot be in service to God and be mad at your brother. I walk over to Drake’s house with no security and leave my phone number, like, ‘Here’s my phone number.’ I’m not trying to ring the doorbell, he might be busy. He got a studio in there, just think he recording at all times.”

“With Jay, I love all these people, but you gotta know there’s lineage from Jay to ‘Ye to Drake. This person your idol, get to know him, become friends, turn to frenemies, turn to enemies. Gotta bring back positive energy. But that’s the lineage of rap kings and inspirers. Jay was my biggest inspiration.”
