Lena Waithe and Alana Mayo Secretly Tied the Knot

Emmy Awarding winning writer/actress Lena Waithe is off the market! “The Chi’s” 35-year-old creator recently revealed to that she and her fiance, Alano Mayo, secretly married in San Francisco. Lena Waithe shared,

“We snuck and did it, you know. We didn’t really make any announcements or a big, you know. We went to the courthouse and got married right in front of Harvey Milk’s bust. It was her idea — like all good things are — and she was just driving and she saw the courthouse and she said, ‘We should get married there,’ and I said, ‘Cool, I’m down.’”

Harvey Milk was one of the first openly gay elected officials in California before his assassination in 1978. His bust, revealed in 2008, serves as a hot-spot for LGBTQ weddings in the area. Lena Waithe continued about she and Alana’s big day:

“It was a humbling day, you know, to marry someone so amazing, but also to really appreciate all the work that so many people have put in for us to be able to do that. Everybody should be able to do that.”

The talented writer once told The Dave Chang Show about her then fiancee: 

“She definitely helps to keep me grounded. When I get home from winning an Emmy, she’s like, ‘Don’t forget to take out the recycling.’ It’s those things that I think are really helpful. She’s so laid back about it all.”

Lena Waithe and Alana Mayo got engaged on Thanksgiving Day in 2017. Congrats, ladies!
