Carl Crawford On Megan Thee Stallion: I Know The Work I Put Into That Situation, I Have To Be Rewarded For The Risk I Took
Carl Crawford might have been the one to discover “Hot Girl Summer” rapper Megan Thee Stallion, but he said he still hasn’t talked to her since she inked a management deal with Jay-Z’s Roc Nation in September.
Crawford, who has signed Megan for at least four albums, said in an interview earlier this week,
“At the end of the day, we just keep it business. I haven’t spoken to her since she signed to Roc Nation, so it’s no issue with me being around or nothing like that. She still can work, I can develop artists and we can move on. that’s what I’m all about, just moving forward. At the end of the day, I know the work that I put into that situation, she understands what I did, and I have to be rewarded for the risk I took. That’s just the nature of the business.”
See it at the 3:17 mark.
His comments come just after he revealed he had no idea Megan struck a management deal with Roc Nation before she announced it on social media.
Crawford said,
“That’s the industry. Unfortunately for whatever reason, I wasn’t tuned in about it. I had the powers that be, you know, come at me a certain way, and I had to go get J. Prince. Me and J. Prince made a post together before her post, but everybody thinks I did it after and was all upset. At the time I wasn’t even aware of her signing… It was a little strange. I chalk all my mishaps to the industry.”
Despite being kept out of the loop, he also said that Megan is still signed to his record label.
“She’s still signed to us. She’s able to have a manager, it’s no big deal. She’s still signed to 1501. I just deal with that part.”
He did take to social media to congratulate her on the move.
