Former NBA Star Paul Pierce Recalls Being Stabbed 8 Times: I Nearly Died [VIDEO]
Former NBA star Paul Pierce opened up about a traumatizing period in early 2000 that nearly turned fatal.
He recalled being stabbed eight times during an appearance on fellow NBA star, Matt Barnes’ podcast ’All The Smoke,’ Wednesday (March 17).
“I’ll never forget that day, stabbed eight times, nearly died.”
Paul Pierce explained what happened before the nearly-fatal moment.
”I was young, hanging out all of the time. Going to the clubs. It was a night I went into Buzz Club. I caught myself talking to some young ladies. I’m single at the time, next time I know a guy approaches me that’s like, ‘You don’t talk to her,’ and I’m like, ‘What?.’”
He said of the September 2000 incident,
“It happened so fast, man. I don’t know how it got into it. It’s just one dude right here. Then the story comes out I was fighting with three guys.”
The former NBA Finals MVP says he never felt being stab eight times,
“I didn’t know I was being stabbed. I look up and my jacket is ripped. Blood everywhere. It’s leaking down my face, I can barely keep my eyes open.”

Paul Pierce required emergency surgery on his lung from his stab wounds. One of which was reportedly seven inches deep. Two men were later sentenced for the attack, according to reports.
In an interview with ESPN, Pierce said the incident left him deeply traumatized for years.
“I couldn’t be near crowds. If I got in a crowded place, I’d start shaking inside. It took me years to get over that. If I was walking and someone bumped into me or rubbed against me, I’d freak out.”
He went on to have an outstanding season and led the Celtics to the NBA championship in 2008.
