Charlamagne Doesn’t Confirm Or Deny If He’s Leaving ‘The Breakfast Club’: My Contract Is Up In December, Take That However You Want To Take It
Charlamagne is addressing rumors that he’s leaving Power 105.1’s hit radio morning show The Breakfast Club after nearly 10 years.
On his other project, The Brilliant Idiots, his co-host Andrew Schulz asked him about speculation that he was leaving the show. Charlamagne responded with
“Who said that?”
Andrew Schulz said he believes it was fellow emcee Joe Budden who made the claims on his own podcast.
Charlamagne continued,
“I think that’s Joe [Budden’s] opinion. I can’t be mad at Joe’s opinion because he’s basing it off of a conversation we had when he was on Breakfast Club with State of the Culture interview.”
He said,
“Joe just asked are we redoing our contracts or something to that extent. We all just got silent basically, I just said ‘My contract is up in December.’ Which is true. Take that however you want to take it. Joe’s just going off the speculation that he’s heard out there. A lot of people ran with what I said in that ‘State of the Culture’ interview and they did articles on it and stuff like that. It became a little story… but I’m not tripping off that. I was actually listening to the Joe Budden podcast that day.”
He said what bothers him the most is incorrect information being reported.
“I don’t like the misinformation about platforms, whether it’s ‘Brilliant Idiots’ or ‘The Breakfast Club.’ Both of those are my babies. ‘Brilliant Idiots’ is something I’ve been doing for the past seven years, ‘Breakfast Club’ is something I’ve been doing for the past nine. So I saw Joe say that, and I’m looking at Youtube comments and I see pople say things like ‘Brilliant Idiots’ isn’t that successful. And I’m like, that’s so disrespectful because it just shows how misinformed people are.”
Right now, the YouTube channel for Brilliant Idiots has 114,000 subscribers. Charlamagne also said that he loves the niche following for the podcast and that it’s had more than 80 million listens since it began.
