Halle Berry Has Been Single For Almost 3 Years: I No Longer Feel The Need To Rush, I’m Waiting On My Match!
Famed screenwriter Lena Waithe and Academy Award-winning actress Halle Berry are friends, business partners, and two single girls navigating their way through the dating pool. Did that infamous kiss tie them together forever? The powerhouses recently talked love, friendship, and “Boomerang”.
Lena Waithe and Halle Berry admit that as Black Hollywood power players, being friends with each other helps the both of them. They talked about how they cemented their friendship ahead of a project Halle Berry is working on:
“Lena: Here’s the thing- it was a moment that I think really cemented us as, like, real friends. ‘Cause we got really real with each other…I think that was a moment where I’m being vulnerable right now telling you how I feel. You were like, ‘I’m being vulnerable right now telling you this is what I wanna do.’ I really supported you even more…if you believe in this, I got you. I support you.
Halle: You know what? I love that you loved me enough to try to protect me. You thought I’m about to, like, f*ck up, and that you wanted to protect me- and that’s real. I love that, because I know that’s what your intention was. It wasn’t to stop me from rising- you were trying to protect me.
Lena: You’re one of the most resilient people I know! I love you!”
Halle is disheartened by still being the only Black female actress to win an Oscar for Best Actress:
“It comes to my mind a lot. And I think the reason we don’t really realize it’s been so much time is because there’s so many other women who are working that stand next to me that we all…felt like we won that award and so many other awards…I’m disheartened by that, ’cause that night nobody could’ve told me that that wasn’t opening a huge door and all these women were gonna walk through behind me…so it often makes me question the real significance of that night. It as great for me, but if it didn’t really incite change, then what was it for?”
Halle Berry opens up on the single life, and what she wants in her next relationship:
“I knew I was gonna at least take…one full year. One year led to two years, and now two years is leading to three years! And I’m fine, because the next relationship I decide to get into, I think I will have a better chance at attracting and choosing what’s right for me, because I’ve taken this time to really think clearly about what’s important to me…and I know what’s right for me, so I know longer feel the need to rush or accept something that’s not totally right for me…I’m gonna wait for my match, or stay solo with my kids and do life how I’m doing it!”
On her iconic role as Angela is “Boomerang,” and reprising it in Lena’s BET series:
“What’s really attractive about Angela is who she is; it’s her heart. And I think no matter what the physical is- Jacqueline was way more glamorous and way more beautiful – but the heart wasn’t as pure. For me, it was really important to play that character because I believe in that…Angela’s gon’ have to show up, you know that right?”
