Ne-Yo Faces Backlash After Thanking George Floyd For His “Sacrifice” While Performing At His Funeral

Singer Ne- Yo is facing backlash after some comments he made while performing at George Floyd’s funeral.

Memorial services have been held for George Floyd in other cities including, North Carolina and Minneapolis. One public figure in attendance was Reverend Al Sharpton who spoke at the funeral today (June 9).  The emotional service included gospel singers Minister Kurt Carr and his praise team and Kim Burrell.

Ne-Yo performed at George Floyd’s funeral today, and while he was about to perform another song he spoke about Mr. Floyd and how his death has impacted him. However, the statement that he made did not sit well with some people on social media. Ne-Yo reflected on Mr. Floyd’s death saying,

“50 states are protesting at the same time, this man changed the world. I just want to thank George Floyd for the sacrifice so my kids can be alright. I appreciate the sacrifice, I really do.”

Following his statement, Ne-Yo got emotional when he sang Boyz II Men’s  hit single “It’s So Hard To Say Goodbye To Yesterday” in honor of Mr. Floyd.

Some twitter users were not impressed with Ne-Yo’s “sacrifice” statement and proceeded to drag him. See the reactions below.
