Trina – Petition Launched To Fire Rapper Over Her Controversial Remarks About Looters

With the recent events relating to the death of George Floyd, which has led to multiple peaceful marches worldwide, many have looked to celebrities to use their platform in accord with the Black Lives Matter movement.

Rapper Trina (real name Katrina Taylor) is still receiving backlash after she described looters as “animals” who are acting as though “they have escaped from the zoo.”

She also issued two apologies.

Still, after one week, there is now a petition on Change.org to get her fired from her radio morning show that she co-hosts with Trick Daddy, where she initially made the comments. As of Wednesday afternoon (June 10th), the petition garnered more than 13,000 signatures. It currently has a goal of 15,000.

The petition reads,

Trina has taken it upon herself to condemn the residents of Miami who participated in the recent protests, live on air, in the most HEINOUS of ways.

Not only did she lump protestors and the handful of looters together, Ms. Taylor took it upon herself to refer to protestors, who were majority Black and people of color, as “ANIMALS running the streets.”

It continues and accuses her of:

Valuing her “friends” store over the reason and importance of the protests
Comparing police brutality and racially enticed murders to someone being killed in a car accident or killed by someone of their own race/community
Stating she’s not afraid of police pulling her over because she carries her license, registration and insurance — Insinuating that having these documents will protect her from police brutality despite the numerous police involved murders where victims DID have these items present

It ends with stating,

It is with great disgust that, I, and many other Black Miami natives have to hear such derogatory and disrespectful speech from someone who has only seen success because of OUR support. To make matters worse, Trina made such erroneous statements on a radio station that has a majority BLACK audience after we’ve endured her obnoxious attitude and middle school reading level for months.

Not only did she let such ignorant and grotesque statements leave her mouth, she stood firm on them as her co-hosts tried to remind her to watch her words. Clearly, she meant what she said, so an apology will NOT do. Trina needs to be removed from this radio show IMMEDIATELY — it is the only way 99Jamz/Cox Media Group can make it up to its listeners.

It also pleads with fans to sign the petition, using one of Trina’s phrases.

Please sign this petition to support having Trina removed from the T&T Morning Show. As Trina said, “today is the today.” Today is the today she will regret being an uneducated bafoon with the audacity to mock and embarrass the very community that has filled the pockets she sits on.
