Pop Smoke’s Posthumous Album Postponed

The news of a new Pop Smoke album dropping after his passing shook his hometown Brooklyn, NY, and the rest of the world.

Pop Smoke, whose real name is Bashar Jackson was a Brooklyn rapper, born on July 20, 1999. He rose to fame quickly after the release of his debut single “Welcome To The Party” in April of 2019 off his lead mixtape Meet The Woo, which was released in July 2019. Pop Smoke dropped his follow up mixtape “Meet the Woo Vol. 2” on Feb. 17, 2020.

Unfortunately, the rapper was killed just two days later in a home invasion in the Beverly Hills home he was renting. He was 20-years-old. The fatal shooter is still at large. His family and former manager, Steven Victor, announced the release of his new music shortly after.

Both parties released a statement that said,

… A rare soul, wise beyond his years whose smile, voice, mere presence would brighten the room. He was all the things one could hope for in an artist, friend, leader and partner. Pop’s passing leaves us all broken hearted with a wound that will never heal.”

“The public show of support and grief, by everyone touched by Pop during his lifetime, has provided some semblance of comfort during these difficult times for his family, friends and colleagues. Throughout the next year we will be sharing new music, as we continue to work to build Pop’s legacy. In conjunction with his estate we will be making formal announcements on his foundation and music projects. We love him so much and miss him dearly.”

50 Cent also said he wanted to help get his debut album out.

But now, considering the international civil unrest, Steven Victor outlined that the recent events have pushed back the release of the highly anticipated album, which was scheduled to be released Friday (June 12th).

He posted the cover art and this caption:

Music is the tool of revolution. We have been watching, along with the rest of the world, as long overdue change starts to take root. We have seen Pop’s music become the soundtrack of the moment, unifying the masses.

Given recent events, we have decided to delay the release of his album out of respect for the movement. “Make It Rain” will be released this Friday, June 12th. The album will be released on July 3rd.

Please join us in celebrating Pop Smoke’s legacy.

Continued prayers for Pop Smoke’s family, loved ones, and fans!
